Whenever a significant honors show approaches, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
- Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
