It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
